Approach
Preservation
An East Coast native, Ann Maria Celona visited countless house museums in New England before volunteering with the Berkeley Architectural Heritage Association and later working on the California Historic American Buildings Survey. The firm's design approach combines a respect for older buildings and neighborhoods with contemporary influences and client needs. We have extensive experience restoring and remodeling homes in the Craftsman, Mediterranean, Classical Revival and other historic styles.
Environment
We believe that the same principles that make a building environmentally friendly are those that have always characterized good design: energy efficiency; use of durable, high-quality materials; and appropriate detailing. Drawing on the latest knowledge in green building practices as well as traditional construction methods, we work with clients to design buildings that perform well and use resources wisely.
Landscape
Our design approach reflects a keen interest in the relationship of architecture to landscape, and we reinforce this connection by linking indoor and outdoor spaces, valuing landscape as an integral component of building design. Thoughtfully designed outdoor 'rooms' can expand living space at minimal cost while enriching views from inside and out. We are proponents of Bay-Friendly landscaping principles designed for healthy soil management and water conservation.
